To spread my textile knowledge, I share my know-how on Katazome, Natural Dyeing and Weaving in the form of small-scale workshops.
All workshops are given by me personally. During these workshops, I rely on over 30 years of experience as a professor at the AKI (Academy of fine Arts AKI/Artez).
Workshops are given on requests of groups, or at the invitation of textile institutes/organisations.
Please contact me via cwvanderheide@hetnet.nl for more information and quotes.
Next workshop: 18 – 20 NOVEMBER 2020 – Katazome on Silk at Zijdelings
In the summer of 2017, I visited visiting Clare Island (Ireland) to give a Katazome workshop. During this workshop we focussed on making stencil prints on silk with rice paste. The technique is based on the Japanese Katazome resist printing method. For the workshop I developed a simplified way of Katazome printing, making use of the natural dyes Clare Island's untamed nature has to offer.
During this workshop you will learn about vegetal dyes which we will thicken with various resources to make them suitable for printing.
We will make stencil prints on silk with rice paste. The technique is based on the Japanese Katazome resist printing method, the precursor of the silkscreen technique that we use nowadays for fabric printing. In this way you create graphic patterns
